You know you live in a world that’s gone a little crazy when you can’t park you 4X4 in fear of loosing a piece of your exhaust. But that’s exactly what is the target of the latest entrepreneurial thieves.

Reported in the TimesOnline that catalytic converters are being removed from 4X4’s at an alarming rate. Gangs are cashing in one the valuable metals inside the converters which are fetching up to $200 a pop!

4X4’s are being target due to their higher clearance and easy access. It takes about 3 minutes to remove the converter and they’re not being shy about it. It’s been reported that even dealers are being targeted, loosing up to 10 in one night. Daylight robbery is also common place in busy suburbs.

We’ve gone through needing lock nuts to protect your rims, detachable face CD players to protect your stereos, are we going to need to install anti-theft side skirts to stop criminals crawling under our pride an joy… Will it ever stop.
