I realized two things today, that generosity and compassion still exists, and that with a little thought, and a little passion, you can turn your hobby into something even greater.

Inspiration for this post came from these two separate initiatives.

Gembrook Clean Up

The guys over at the 3rd ROCK 4×4 forum are now on their third Gembrook clean up. Basically what takes place is a bunch of 4X4 enthusiasts and members of the club meet up with other 4X4 clubs and spend a day cleaning up campsites. Why? So they can protect the environment they enjoy every time they go off-road. They sacrifice a full Sunday to pick up all the crap that other complete wankers leave behind. And you know — they’re proud of what they do… And so they should be.

SIDS 4X4 Club Run

This one’s over at the Downunder 4X4 forum. One of their members is leading the organization of a 4X4 run where all the proceeds are donated to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). Again using their hobby to raise funds and awareness for a great cause. They’re looking for some corporate support so if there’s anyone out there prepared to contribute, email me shayne@4X4Fever.com and I’ll pass on the details.

Discovering both these initiatives today re-enforced to me that there a still some amazing people willing to donate their time and money for a good cause. With this world becoming busier, faster, harder, more complicated, the excuses seem to grow. I think there’s a lesson or two we could all learn (including me) from these two examples.
